It is with a profound sense of love and loss that I, N'Rya Lawson, write about the life and legacy of my mother, Renesha Lawson, fondly known as Bird, who was born on September 7, 1983, in Flint, Michigan. Renesha was a woman of remarkable strength, inspiring intelligence, and humble grace. Her smart and loving nature was a beacon of warmth that drew people closer to her. She was a woman who lived her life with the intent to uplift everyone around her and to pave a path of knowledge, kindness, and love for her children and family. Renesha was a devoted nurse for 20 years, a field she chose out of her natural inclination towards service and empathy. Her passion and dedication were recognized with LPN and RN licenses, a testament to her hard work and commitment. Her thirst for knowledge was insatiable, always seeking to learn and research new things about the world and health care. She carried the beauty of the world in her heart and reflected it in her poetry, a hobby that brought her immense joy. Renesha was an ardent believer in the power of words, and her faith was a pillar of strength in her life. She often found comfort in the words of the Bible, particularly Proverbs 31:26, "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." This verse was a perfect reflection of her life and spirit. Renesha’s love for her family was unwavering. She left her home in Flint, Michigan, with me in her arms, seeking a better life in Columbus, Ohio, where she believed we could be closer as a family. She also lived in Dallas, Texas for a year as a travel nurse, showcasing her adaptability and resilience. Survived by her children, Taylor and Tyler Torres and me, her mother Tammy Lawson, and her siblings Emanuel, Tomeko, and Shaquice Lawson, Renesha leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and humble service. She is preceded in death by her father, Dwayne James, and grandparents, Mary and Henry Lawson.
