Columbus, Ohio
Cherie Maria Neal, a spirited pillar of her community and an unwavering beacon of faith, has departed from our midst on June 2, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio on February 2, 1956, Cherie was a woman who wore many hats, each defined by her loving and generous spirit. As an evangelist, she devoted her life to the service of God and his children. As a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, and an aunt, she was a supportive and nurturing figure whose love knew no bounds.
Cherie's life was a testament to the adage, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." She demonstrated her generosity not just through her vocation in the ministry, but also through her roles as a mother, foster mom, and prayer warrior. Her beautiful voice brought joy to her children, LaQuita and Gary, every morning as she sang "Rise and Shine." Her favorite moments were spent with them and her grandsons Gary E and Harlan, whether it was roller skating at gospel skate, practicing karate, or enjoying meals at the hibachi house. Her siblings, Mark and Tim, and nieces, Sydney and Mahogany, also experienced the warmth of her love. Cherie was a faithful servant of Christ, a fervent prayer warrior, and an awesome grandmother. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for God.
Cherie was a beloved daughter to Margaret Poindexter, a loving sister, and a cherished aunt. She is survived by her mother, Margaret Poindexter, and her family member, Gary Jones. She is preceded in death by her father, Rodgers Fowler. Cherie was an ardent Ohio State fan whose love for her neighbors led her to regularly pray for them and gift them cards. Her life was a beautiful testament to her faith, her love for her family, and her generous spirit. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will forever be a reminder of a life well-lived.
We invite you to share your memories and photos of Cherie on her memorial page. Let us celebrate the life of this amazing woman, who not only lived but also loved with all her heart. Her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those she touched. In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Cherie's love has become a part of all of us, and for that we are eternally grateful.
